I visited your website when googling Graham Hudson of Ladbroke Avon Warwick following his death. March 2024.
First, I like to say. What a great site, a lot of history that should never be forgotten.
Graham Hudson gave me my first job straight from school at 15, I served a 5 year apprenticeship and worked my way to the body shop forman. Young Olly as stated on your website. My name is Donald Leahy, always known as olly.
You also mention Eric Meredith, it should be Eric Dowding who was the foreman of the mechanical shop. Eric Meredith was working for Avon bodies when Ladbrokes took over, he may well have been a foreman in the Avon bodies day.
Speaking for myself, I worked at Ladbrokes then Ladbroke Avon, The Regent garage, Priory bodies (not on your list situated under the railway arches off the high street Leamington) and then Soans.
I no longer live in Leamington but have great memories.
If you have a question you can contact me on donleahy@hotmail.com
Regards Olly

Hi
Interested to find he Bridge Garage mentioned, my Grandfather was Arthur John McDonagh and he bought the Nursery Cottage in the 1920’s. He built the garage part using old bricks that his wife Florence cleaned. It was said he had the first bus service in Warwick and used to take charabancs to the sea.( several photos exist of their time there)
He had raced motorcycles for Rudge in his youth.
He owned the Garage till his death in 1961 and it passed to his son John who owned it till his death.
There was another garage on the Saltisford part of Birmingham Road ( incidently owned/used by my Great Grandfather James Rock until his death in an accident there in 1932. Perhaps George Crane took over then. Near to the Kings Head Inn.
I think the two garages might have been mixed up.
