Not many will know that Lockheed first started out as the Zephyr Carburettor Company in Clemens Street, Leamington and then acquired by Automotive Products in 1928.
April 1925 Mr Ernest Thomas Page was the works superintendent.

Automotive Products was founded by Edward Boughton, Willie Emmott & Denis Brock and began in Berners Street in London in 1920 with the purpose of importing components from the USA to maintain ex-military vehicles which were adapted for civilian use in this country after WW1.
A licence for the production of the Lockheed braking system was obtained from one of the original founder member brothers of Loughead Aircraft of the USA. Malcolm Loughead left the aviation business and set up his own company selling his design of hydraulic brakes for automobiles and called the company the Lockheed Hydraulic Brake Company in Detriot, USA. Later the other brother Allan set up the Lockheed Aircraft Corporation keeping the spelling of his brothers company.
AP Racing (CP – Competition Products)
I think the AP Competition Products Department needs a post on its own.
Automotive Products was founded by Edward Boughton, Willie Emmott & Denis Brock and began in Berners Street in London in 1920.
In 1929 they moved to Clemens Street in Leamington and produced Lockheed Braking Systems under licence from the USA, they then built the factory on Tachbrook Road.

As late as 1967, AP Lockheed then introduces a department CP – Competition Parts to look after performance enquires.
1967 Jim Clark wins the Dutch Grand Prix using a “Competition Products Division clutch fitted in a Lotus.
In 1970 the name was changed to AP Racing.
AP Racing’s brakes and a clutch was fitted to Mario Andretti’s 312B Ferrari which won the South African GP.
In 1989 AP Racing provided four-piston brake callipers for the Vauxhall Lotus Carlton.
In 1990 premises in Coventry are purchased and the AP Racing Department is moved and officially opened in 1991.
Just nine years later the Department is sold to Brembo.
By 2014 AP Racing have had their 750th Grand Prix success with Lewin Hamilton winning in a Mercedes and currently AP Racing is still going strong.
