Associated Engineering Group – Leamington Spa
In 1957 the Associated Engineering Group’s head office moved from London to Leamington Spa which was more central for the subsidiaries, the head office was now at Ince House along the Kenilworth Road and was still shown as being there in 1966.
They were “makers” of Automotive parts and in 1947 they had acquired:
The British Piston Ring Company of Holbrook Lane, Coventry (Brico)
Hepworth and Grandage and Welworthy Piston Rings.
In 1954 they have acquired the Aeroplane and Motor Aluminium Castings Ltd company of Tyburn Road, Birmingham who manufacture pistons and aluminium cylinder heads.
In 1955 they have acquired the Coventry Radiator and Presswork Co of Canley, Coventry, and Leamington Spa, its name changed later to Covrad.
1966 Associated Engineering Ltd had 19 principal companies in the UK and 10 major subsidiaries overseas.
Products/brands included:
Wellworthy Specialloid diesel pistons.
Glacier plain bearings.
AMAC aluminium castings.
Hepolite petrol pistons.
Covra radiators.
Drav space heaters.
Brico sintered products.
H.P.E. numerically controlled milling machines.
H&G (Yeadon) gas turbine blades.
By 1968 the group have around 28,000 employees.
In 1986 Associated Engineering has had a large interest in the company being acquired by Tenmat, originally Turner and Newell of Manchester.
In turn, they were bought by the Federal-Mogul Corporation of Detroit USA, a manufacturer and supplier of products for automotive, aerospace, marine, rail and off-road vehicles.
That company was then acquired in April 2018 by Tenneco at a cost of US$5.4 billion dollars.
In January 2019 Tenneco acquired the Swedish company Öhlins Racing.
