Automobile Repairing Co – Tavistock Street, Leamington Spa, owned by Ambrose Valentine, born 1874 in Milverton but moved to Croxton House, 27 Sherbourne Place in Leamington Spa.
In 1897 he owns an Arnold from the Arnold Motor Carriage, one of twelve only made.
One of these is reputed to have won the first London to Brighton Run in 1896.
The Emancipation Run from London to Brighton celebrates the passing into law of the “Locomotives on the Highway Act”, which raised the speed limit for ‘Light Locomotives’ from 4 miles per hour to 14 mph. This was reduced to 12 mph before the act come into force. The act abolished the requirement for the car to be preceded by a man on foot.
In 1903 he has a garage the Automobile Repairing Co at 17 Tavistock Street.
The last advert I can find was in the Leamington Spa Courier of 5 June 1903.
In 1911 he has moved to Maidenhead and is now an out-of-work Automobile Engineer.
