Chandos Motors – Leamington Spa

Chandos Motors – Leamington Spa

It would be seen that Harcourt Motors may have been at the premises in the 1950s, as I have found adverts going back to Sept 1950 for low mileage second-hand cars and up 31 Oct 1964.

I’ve also found adverts for Davidsons Garage, at 13 Chandos Street, advertising in the Courier on April 26 1929.
I have an invoice from Mr Richards of 35 Llewellyn Road for a replacement rear axle on a Standard Nine on 27th January 1947, costing £19.2.6d.

The first advert I can see for Chandos Motors is in Dec 1964, when George Curtis, the Coventry City Football Club Captain, joins as a car salesman at the newly opened second-hand car sales company at 13 Chandos Street.

John Shorney. and Martin Pace are listed as proprietors of Chandos Motors in 1974.

On Saturday, September 7th 1974, the remnants of tropical storm Dolly caused chaos throughout Warwickshire, with wind speed gusts of 60mph being recorded at Elmdon Airport.
A 40ft wall of the garage collapsed onto cars and onto both Martin Pace and John Shorney, who had serious head and leg injuries was kept in at Warwick Hospital.

Martin Pace suffering grazes.

In February 1974, Chandos Motor have moved to Albany Road, in Earlsdon, Coventry.
