Donald Healey Marine – Warwick
Not strictly Motoring History but, Donald Healey was friends with, as is now, Sir Stirling Moss they both enjoyed water skiing. There is a tie-up as Stirling was not only friends with Donald, but had also raced in the Austin Healey 100Ss team at Sebring in Florida.
In 1962 he also raced in one of the four all aluminium Mk2 Sprites at Sebring for the BMC entry that were built by Donald Healey and again and in 1963 for a 3hr race.
In 1955 Donald Healey produced his first wooden Ski Master Speed Boat in Devon before moving the production to the Cape Works.
1958 the construction was now in Fibre Glass and had a powerful inboard engine and now named the Healey Sprite. They were produced from 1955 to 1963?
Although two were used as support boats at Donald Campbell’s water speed record in 1964.
