Ladbrokes in Millars Road, Warwick in another post.
I worked here for a while in 1974-1975 when it was Ladbroke-Avon Bodies the mechanical workshop was at the back of the building.
Ladbroke Bodies used to be at the bottom end of Quarry Street, in Leamington and was owned by Graham Hudson.
He bought out Avon Bodies and it then became Ladbroke-Avon Bodies.
Ladbroke -Avon was well known for the Jaguar XJC Convertible and a Jaguar Estate car which were both designed by Tony Stevens of Warwick.
Tony Stevens has cropped up a few times already and was responsible for the Orange car at the heading on this page.
I will come back to that another time.
The mechanical workshop foreman was Eric Dowding and a young lad Olly?
George Neil was the Manager.
There were always a couple of Alvis Cars in the workshop/Trimers and were usually produced to very good standards of workmanship.
Although my mate’s gold Ford Cortina 1600e was a different kettle of fish, that one they couldn’t get right.
My Mk1 Ford Escort 1300 Sport was in for repairs there and they went old school on mine and lead-filled it instead of using P38 filler.
Ladbroke Avon, in the 1980s, produced special versions of the Triumph Acclaim and the Talbot Sunbeam Lotus.
Ladbroke – Avon ceased trading in 1986.
Graham Hudson died on ? March 2024
