They were at 2 The Parade, on the corner of the Parade and Clarendon Avenue.
The earliest information found is an advert simply stating “Leamington Automobile Co for cars” in 1922.
In June 1938, an advert showed they had acquired the Warwick Garage and Service Station on Startford Road. (Later to become Hutfields Coaches).
Driving was much more hazardous then, 7,343 people were killed on Great Britain’s roads when only 2.4 million vehicles were in use – in 2008, 2,538 people were killed with 26.5 million vehicles on the road.
Mr Beere was the first person to pass the driving test, all new motorists now have to pass the driving test which came into force on 1 June 1935.

Leamington Automobile Co now has an advert in 1937 providing private driving lessons.

Also in 1937, they are South Warwickshire’s distributor for Austin and also selling the new Siddall Caravan manufactured by Siddall Caravans Ltd, Old Bath Road, Cheltenham and first shown in 1936.



In 1952 Austin and Morris become part of BMC and the photo of Leamington Automobile Co advertises the new Austin A99 first introduced in 1959, the workshop at the side of the building also states BMC Servicing.

In 1962 it was part of the “Midland Motor Sales Group” which also included Leamington Motors, Stratrode Motors of Stratford Road, Warwick and several Coventry garages which were then owned by Dominic Facchino who had recently sold his “Mr Whippy” ice cream business which was purchased by Wall’s and Unilever in 1966.
