The owner Moses Whittle was born in Bolton in 1882, and after living in Wales, moved to 72 Newcombe Road, Earlsdon, Coventry.

In 1916 he purchased the workshop in Clinton Street called the Leamington Valve and Piston Ring Company.
Moses Whittle had married Sarah Alice Garlick in 1905 in Bolton and had 2 children, Frank Whittle and Joseph Arthur Whittle 1909-1970.

For those that don’t know, Sir Frank Whittle became an engineer with the Royal Air Force (RAF) and is credited with inventing the turbojet engine. A ground-breaking innovation, his jet engine design was to revolutionise the world of air travel.

Moses Whittle was the father of Sir Frank Whittle who had lived and worked in the Workshop from the age of 9.
Frank Whittle died on 8 August 1996, in Columbia, Howard, Maryland, United States, at the age of 89, and is interred in St Andrews Churchyard, Cranwell, North Kesteven, Lincolnshire.

Now owned by Professor Beacham, professor emeritus at King’s College London, who lives next door to the workshop on Clinton Street, and said he felt “dismayed” when he heard in 2013 that permission had been granted for the building to be demolished.
