Longbridge Garage – Warwick

Longbridge Garage was owned by Benjamin Franks.

In December 1941, it was opposite the new RAF Warwick Airfield, which was to the west of the Stratford Road.

I was also known as Frank’s Garage or Benny Frank’s.

The earliest publication was from 1934, where Mr B Franks of Longbridge Garage was giving evidence of a new Imperial Motorcycle being purchased by a customer, it seems, using a bicycle as part payment that did not belong to them.

In June 1937, a brave employee, Cyril George Rolfe, was giving evidence of theft of some wheels and petrol from the garage by some Caravan dwellers who tried to run him over.
In 1934, the Garage would have been near the fork in the road where it split and went to Stratford in one direction, and in the other towards Wellesbourne.

In February 1952, (Warwick Advertiser) a Mr John Arthur McDonagh of Longbridge Garage was fined for careless driving in Kineton and fined £2.00.
On 14 March 1952, the Warwick Advertiser then states that it was the wrong address and it should have been The Bridge Garage on the Warwick Road.

13 October 1976, Mary Hooper of Wrawick entered a competition run by Elf F1 Grand Prix for an advertising slogan and won second prize, a £3000 Ford Capri.
The keys were handed over by former F1 Champion Jackie Stewart.

Benjamin Franks had owned the garage up until December 1989, when it was then taken over by George Fransic of GWS Motor of Wellesbourne.

1990, Now advertised as LCS Longbridge Garage with premises in Leamington called LCS Wise Street Garage, Wise Street, Leamington.

Strangely, there aren’t any more car adverts after May 1990, but an advert for a Petrol Pump attendant in August 1990.
